Well, I don’t know if there are others like me, but being a bit of a geek when it comes to IT and IT related subjects I find the whole idea of hacking interesting.
Understandably there are bad reputations for hackers out there but I’m more interested in the legitimate side of hacking (aka white-hat / ethical hacking)
People are making good use of their geeky knowledge and being security experts for companies, being paid big money to put their skills to use
Down on the low-end side of things like me, I find it quite cool starting to learn the knowledge on how to crack NTLM passwords on a computer (not just using L0phtcrack, John the Ripper or 0phcrack) but actually understanding how an NTLM hash is composed and how to extract the data from a sam file for brute force cracking
The wealth of tools at your disposal are amazing and should always be part of an IT toolkit in my opinion as an IT engineer who can crack passwords is always another useful skill to take along with you in life 🙂
