Google and Facebook, arguably the largest possible sites in the world alongside Youtube. What if there’s potential for every little gritty secret about you to be exposed?
Sure they’re great sites for networking, but this post is mainly to warn people to be careful about what information they declare online.
Every now and then people register for online forums where they like talking, dating sites, car sites, facebook, etc. Usually whenever people register on sites like these they generally use the same username across all websites, or a slight variation of them. How much of a detrimental effect can that have on you. Well depends what information you have online and what information you want to be declared.
Think of a common username you registered with on a website, now type it into google. You’ll probably find a link to some websites with direct links to your name.
With some good sleuthing skills it’s easily possible to find out where a person lives, their telephone number, email addresses, etc.
This is why there is great potential for online stalkers and predators. When you are registering for a website, give as little information as possible or if you have to completely fake details. Some websites require you to enter this information to verify your account, if so enter it although I also recommend using different usernames across websites. This makes it harder to drill down into your details.
