Google Chrome not launching when clicking

  • IT

This will be an ongoing update until I can permanently resolve the issue

This has been bugging me, every now and then Google Chrome just doesn’t open for me whatsoever. On investigation it seems to be related to bad references to previous application installations. What I suspect is happening, is the program is updating itself correctly when software updates are needed, but after the software is updated. It’s either not updating the local/registry values and pointing to them for the software installation when launching the application or there’s a corrupted entry somewhere locally that cannot be read by the system.

TROUBLESHOOTING

1) I proceeded by opening up the debug log for the application so I knew where to start off with using Notepad++. This is located in the following folder…

C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Chrome\Application\Debug.log

The first thing I identified was that it was clearly pointing to a previous update or installation as it was in a different folder.

2) The program installs the following on a new installations {folders in bold} and it also renames the old installer to old_chrome.exe
