How much did I earn in February 2025?
No change, traffic still doing OK.
Just waiting on my payout on my affiliate link in my Virgin Internet post article. Two people now have signed up, they’re pending £50 after 3 months, and I’m currently pending £100. Who else wants to have this internet service?
I mentioned last month that I’m considering trying Youfibre. I’m most likely going to switch. This isn’t anything bad relating to Virgin Media, I’m happy with the service they’re giving. I just want something cheaper. Currently Youfibre are running a promotion (which ends 1st April) for £31.99 on symettric internet (900 up / 900 down). Whilst I don’t use it to the full potential, I know the renewal price I’d be offered would probably be hard to match, and my current internet doesn’t expire until around June.
The main reason I’m looking at switching is because ping rates are lower with Youfibre due to being full FTTP, and I’m allowed to use my own equipment connected directly to their ONT. As I’m from an IT background I want to experiment with my own setups. I’d happily use Virgin Media internet again considering my choices (heck at some date I may run a dual setup with Youfibre if it ever gets cheaper), and then run a bonded internet connection for both speed and failover.
At this moment in time though, it’s about saving money and working on my own setup. If things don’t go well with Youfibre, I’ll switch back to Virgin Media.
I’m wanting to upgrade my home Internet a lot, I’m currently looking at 10Gb network switches for local LAN, and SFP uplinks from a 10GB Router. I want to start experimenting with VLAN’s on the setup and playing about with technology. Another benefit is that Youfibre have static IP addresses. The network switch I’d like is about £3500, so that won’t happen anytime soon 🙁

Monthly admin thoughts
Nothing to report really with the website. Just more looking at my car, as it’s getting the time of the year now where the servicing will begin again with tbe better weather
No real change in coolant level on my car, I topped it up again with fluid since the last article and it hasn’t really gone down, so it’s either a really really slow loss, or just something I missed. I decided to give the car a quick bit of greasing up since the bonnet lock was starting to stick slightly. The last time I greased it I used some Granville Ceramic Brake Grease, and can’t really fault it. It’s been about 2 years since I last used it, so the lubrication effect lasted a while. Took me less than 5 mins to regrease it and the bonnet is now springing up again nicely. I have a 500g tub so it will last a while.
I’ll be spending about £200 on servicing items this motnh for my car as it hasn’t had an oil change in about 2 years. I had to replace the Cigarette Lighter because mine was busted and not powering my Dashcam. I ordered a replacement from eBay (which actually had cover) and fitted so all working again
I also need to repair my Glovebox, that broke. I think something caught on it when I was closing it so it dropped annoyingly. I think this time when I remove the lower engine covers to do the oil change I’m going to look at plastic welding where the nuts go through too for making it more securing and fitting.
